Jay Budz, who provides background vocals on Release de Kraken, is the voice that welcomes us in with his demand “Dutch release the Kraken.” And that is exactly what Courtney “Curty” Louis – the award winning Saint Lucian songwriter and producer has done. You can think of the Kraken Riddim as a soca beast – one that is guaranteed to annihilate everyone in its path. Starting with nothing short of a Dutch Productions/Stratosphere Music label anthem Chanting. Louis assembled a powerhouse of soca talent including Grenadian Soca King Mr Killa and Saint Lucian Soca King Ricky T. The two are accompanied by Mongstar, Ambi and Saint Lucia’s premier female soca artiste – Q-Pid. Written by the stellar cast – Chanting is a battle cry – one that calls for rags, flags and mouths to chant. Laced with spiritual overtones including the opening prayer, it encourages unity, respect and love among soca artistes and those who enjoy soca music. It is appropriate therefore to follow Chanting with Release de Kraken a song that lets Q-Pid fans know that following a year of keeping her pressure in she is ready to unleash power soca bacchanal upon them. Written by Jonathan Mathurin, Melissa Moses and Courtney Louis – Release de Kraken calls for mash up in a vein similar to D’Sean on Born Brave. Declaring “we don’t watch face” – D’Sean uses his unique voice to bring The Kraken riddim home. If power soca is what you want, then this riddim will give you that and more so Dutch – thanks for releasing The Kraken.
